Poll defies narrative, shows most Americans favor GOP plan to defund Planned Parenthood

A little-noticed poll is challenging the widely touted narrative that most Americans oppose GOP efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. The nationwide poll conducted by the Robert Morris University Polling Institute found that 53.3 percent of those surveyed support moving federal funding from Planned Parenthood to community clinics that do not offer abortions, while 31.5 percent are opposed.

Poll: NRA more popular than Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

A new poll shows The National Rifle Association is more popular than the Democratic party's two most prominent members, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
According to the Gallup Poll, 58 percent of Americans surveyed said they have a favorable view of the gun rights group, while 35 percent said they have an unfavorable view.

THE STAGGERING IMMIGRATION POLL NUMBERS DRIVING EVEN DEMOCRATS TO DENOUNCE AMNESTY

When a Democratic Senate candidate, a darling of Hollywood liberals, starts attacking Republicans over supporting amnesty, you know something is going on, even if it is in a red state.  Allison Grimes, who says she supports a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal aliens, was “caught” running an ad in Kentucky attacking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for voting to give “amnesty” to 3 million “illegal aliens” – in 1986. The ad was unlisted on her YouTube account, and since garnering attention on the left has caused a major brouhaha on the left.

Just How Out of Touch is the Ruling Class?

As House Republicans prepare for their aptly-named “GOP Retreat” at the end of the month, they are planning to make immigration the centerpiece of their legislative strategy.  Both Politico and Roll Call offer a glimpse into their grand scheme.  They will offer a lot of window dressing about enforcement and all the things the GOP base wants to hear.  But ask yourself this question: why the urgency?

According to a new Gallup poll, immigration ranks among the lowest priority issues in the minds of voters.  Only 3% listed it as a top issue, whereas most people felt the economy, jobs, and healthcare (Obamacare) were much more important.  More strikingly, the largest plurality of respondents listed dissatisfaction with government as the most pressing issue.

CNN Poll: GOP Has Edge in Early Midterm Indicator

Democrats have lost their advantage and Republicans now have a slight edge in the battle for control of Congress, according to a new national poll.  A CNN/ORC International survey released Thursday also indicates that President Barack Obama may be dragging down Democratic congressional candidates, and that the 2014 midterm elections are shaping up to be a low-turnout event, with only three in 10 registered voters extremely or very enthusiastic about voting next year.

A Historic Collapse

Most graphs of polling data show shifts that are very gradual. (Tracking real-time changes in poll results often is about as exciting as watching paint dry.) Recently, however, the HuffPost Pollster website produced a graph of national polling on Congress that showed one of the most dramatic shifts I've ever seen in 40 years of involvement in politics. It charts responses to the question of whether voters would like Republicans or Democrats to control the House.

Shocker: 58% Say They Trust GOP More on Handling Health Care

A new poll arrived in my e-mailbox this morning, indicating how quickly the conventional wisdom about the issue of health care has been turned upside down: 

“Loyalty prevails among partisans, but among independents, 42 percent trust the Democratic Party more when it comes to handling healthcare compared with 58 percent who trust the Republican Party more.”

 

Forty one percent of registered voters approve of the law compared with 53 percent who disapprove.

 

Since September, Democrats have shifted 11 points away from let the law take effect as is, Independents have moved 10 points away from let the law take effect as is, and Republicans are 10 points more likely to support repealing law.

 

One in five registered voters have or know someone who has received an insurance cancelation notice.

Poll: Grimes Edging McConnell in Kentucky

Voters in the Bluegrass State aren't pleased with the state of affairs in Washington, and they appear to be taking it out on Mitch McConnell. The Senate minority leader narrowly trails Kentucky's Democratic secretary of state, Alison Lundergan Grimes, in his 2014 re-election bid, according to a new survey conducted by the Democratically affiliated Public Policy Polling for progressive group Americans United for Change. Lundergan Grimes leads McConnell by a two-point margin (45 percent to 43 percent), which is within the poll’s margin of error (plus or minus 2.8 percent). Twelve percent of respondents remained undecided.

Another flawed poll, another reason to expect Republicans to cave in the shutdown battle?

If reports of Republican panic on Capitol Hill are accurate, a big reason is likely the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal survey, which purports to show the public overwhelmingly disapproves of the GOP's role in the government shutdown.

And on the surface, the news does indeed look grim for the GOP, as explained by NBC's political editor, Mark Murray:

"The Republican Party has been badly damaged in the ongoing government shutdown and debt limit standoff, with a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finding that a majority of Americans blame the GOP for the shutdown, and with the party's popularity declining to its lowest level.
  
"By a 22-point margin (53 percent to 31 percent), the public blames the Republican Party more for the shutdown than President Barack Obama – a wider margin of blame for the GOP than the party received during the poll during the last shutdown in 1995-96."

Contentions: The Role of Rhetoric in Christie’s Rise

The latest Quinnipiac poll showing Chris Christie’s approval rating at 59 percent in New Jersey has been raising eyebrows. As Aaron Blake writes at the Washington Post, “New Jersey is notoriously tough on its politicians – it’s rare that anybody cracks even 50 percent approval – and the state’s Democratic lean makes Christie’s success all the more notable. Despite his tough rhetoric, 54 percent say he’s a leader, while 39 percent (read: Democrats) say he’s a bully.”  ✧ Blake gets one thing backwards, though. It certainly seems that the tide has been running strongly against the GOP lately--or, at least, it was until last November. Actually, since then our news media have studiously averted their eyes from the main change in voters' perceptions of the parties--a growing sense of dismay at the havoc Democrats are wreaking in Washington.

IBD Poll: McCain Tied with Obama!

The latest IBD/TIPP poll has been released today - and it has John McCain statistically tied with Barack Obama! And Neal Cavuto has just reported that the PEW poll has McCain ahead by 1% among likely voters! This comes on the heels of yesterday's Zogby one-day tracking poll which had McCain ahead of Obama by 1%. This race is extraordinarily close, with a large number of undecided voters that will likely break for McCain.
