Cheney Makes Obama Defensive on National Security

Via NFRW POINTS FORWARD, 5/22/2009 - The President also feels the heat from members of his own party. ∴ The Politico.com reports that Obama is "back on his heels over torture and terror, issues on which he surely thought he had the upper hand," after Dick Cheney landed many punches during his own speech on Thursday. ∴ The criticism also came from his own party as Obama and his staff had even received calls from many worried Democrats on Capitol Hill. They pushed the White House hard to give Thursday's speech on national security to answer Republican charges of being soft on terrorism.

According to the Politico.com, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and others made clear "that we're going to need a lot more cover if we're going to be able to deal with this issue," said one Democratic leadership aide. Others said that this was not a speech the White House wanted to do since it would rather be pushing the country toward universal health care and other big government schemes.

This is a good start, but Cheney can not do it alone. More Republicans need to keep the pressure on the Obama White House.

Yet I have to wonder whether what he is saying now is the truth -- i.e., torture works. Read more at the Washington Post...

Hat tip: John H. Detweiler
John says, "Reality is always tough. Cheney, et al, was on the line and had to deal with reality. I wonder if Obama, et al, will be able to deal with reality." Read More......

Cheney speaks out

Power Line blog combined former Vice President Cheney's recent comments on political affairs, titled Cheney's Warning.
    - Cheney criticized the Obama administration for relaxing its guard
    - Cheney vigorously defended the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay
    - Cheney also commented on the current political scene:
"You have Daschle with his tax problem. You have [Treasury Secretary Tim] Geithner with his tax problem. You have Charlie Rangel, who's chairman of the Ways and Means Committee -- doesn't understand the tax code. You have Chris Dodd, who got special -- alleged special terms" on a mortgage. "If I look at that from our standpoint," Cheney said, "I'd start to worry about it if I were a Democrat. There's nothing more dangerous, politically, than hypocrisy. At some point, here, we're going to get critical mass."
