Feds Paid $709,000 To Academic Who Studies How Glaciers Are Sexist

Academics at the University of Oregon have determined that glaciers and the science that studies them are deeply sexist.“Merging feminist postcolonial science studies and feminist political ecology, the feminist glaciology framework generates robust analysis of gender, power, and epistemologies in dynamic social-ecological systems, thereby leading to more just and equitable science and human-ice interactions,” reads the paper’s abstract.

I’d like to study that

Someone once told me that if a golfer imagines the hole is larger, he will putt better. I’m not sure if that’s true, but the National Science Foundation gave researchers at Purdue University $350,000 to find out. The study was inconclusive, which means two things: we still can’t putt very well, and Purdue needs more research money.

EPA to mine Twitter for tweets on diarrhea, vomiting, flu

Showing that there is no end to what the Obama administration will spy on, the Environmental Protection Agency has developed a plan to chart the flu by mining the social website Twitter for tweets on diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and the bug.

The agency is shopping for a company that can search for those terms and several others to determine how many people in the country are suffering from “acute gastroenteritis infections,” or AGI, and where the hot spots are. The agency wants to compare the tweet results with figures from the Centers for Disease Control.

ObamaCare Dumped $1.2 Billion Into Failing State Exchanges

Minnesota isn't alone in wasting federal dollars on failing exchanges.  ObamaCare exchanges built by Oregon, Maryland, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Vermont also are suffering serious-to-fatal problems. These six states — all solidly Democratic — received $1.2 billion in ObamaCare grants, according to official tallies by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  Those dysfunctional six are in addition to 35 states that initially accepted funds to build exchanges that never got built.

Corvallis wins "Porker Award"

From Oregon Capitol Watchdog Foundation - On October 1, the second Oregon Capitol Watch Foundation "Porker Award" was bestowed upon the City of Corvallis for spending $500,000 on encouraging people to use compact flourescent bulbs and ride their bicycles.

I-Team: Gov't spends $2.8M on free internet for residents

TAMPA - Millions of federal and local tax dollars have been paying for free internet access and computers for thousands of Tampa residents. It’s a federal stimulus program unique to Tampa that some people are calling government waste.

The program is called AccessALL Tampa. The idea is to help low-income families get access to the Internet. But after one year and $2.8 million in local and federal dollars spent, some say the program isn’t worth it.
