Climate accord 'irrelevant,' and CO2 cuts could impoverish the world: Scientist

The world's historic effort to reduce carbon emissions is likely to be a costly if not quixotic endeavor, according to one expert, whose recently published research warns that decarbonizing the globe could have devastating consequences on the world's way of life.

26 states ask Supreme Court to halt Obama’s carbon emissions plan

This should be interesting. One state after another have been pushing back on the new EPA carbon emission guidelines, with many of them refusing to file a plan for compliance until the courts have weighed in. Now some of the biggest energy producing states are trying to bring the situation to a head well in advance of the normal challenge and appeal process.

NEWS ALERT: Obama set to announce steeper emissions cuts from US power plants

President Barack Obama will impose steeper cuts on greenhouse gas emissions from power plants across the country than previously expected, senior administration officials said Sunday, in what the president called the most significant step the U.S. has ever taken to fight global warming.
The Obama administration is expected to finalize the rule at a White House event on Monday, a year after proposing unprecedented carbon dioxide limits. Obama, in a video posted on Facebook, said the limits were backed up by decades of data and facts showing that without tough action, the world will face more extreme weather and escalating health problems like asthma.

Trucking Industry Sues Oregon Over Fuel Law

Oregon’s new governor Kate Brown two weeks ago signed into a law a bill requiring distributors to reduce the carbon “intensity” of vehicle fuel by 10 percent over the next decade.  Now the American Trucking Associations has joined with the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers and the Consumer Energy Alliance in suing Oregon to block the fuel standards.  “The Oregon program is set up to give a big boost to Oregon’s small biofuel industry, without reducing net greenhouse gas emissions, and at the expense of higher fuel costs for everyone,” said ATA Vice President for Energy and Environmental Affairs Glen Kedzie.

GOP lawmakers accuse EPA of muzzling scientists on climate regulations

Republican leaders on the House Science Committee are accusing the Environmental Protection Agency of disregarding science in its push to impose carbon dioxide limits on power plants. ✧ Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, and 20 other Republican lawmakers sent a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy on Thursday, claiming the agency has "muzzled" members of its independent science advisory board.

Earth Day’s Big Lie

Monday, April 22, is Earth Day. Begun in 1970, it led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, along with the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. It is the global platform for the Big Lie that carbon dioxide (CO2) is causing the Earth to warm and the basis of the environmental movement’s ceaseless efforts to reduce the use of energy for any reason.
Carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere has been increasing, but the Earth has been cooling due to reduced solar radiation. CO2 has virtually no relationship to the climate except to show up well after a significant change has occurred.

On April 18, the Wall Street Journal reported that the International Energy Agency had announced that, despite spending “more than $2 trillion in investment into renewable-energy projects…the world had made almost no progress over the past 20 years in reducing the carbon content of its energy supplies.” It has never needed reduction. How many hospitals, schools, bridges, and other useful things that could have been built instead?

U.S. Carbon Emissions Down Due to Increased Use of Natural Gas

The most underreported recent environmental story has been the dramatic decline in energy-related carbon emissions — nearly back to mid-1990s levels, and falling. ✧ Maybe it’s because that story just doesn’t fit the left’s mantra that traditional energy sources are destroying the environment. Germany’s Green Energy Policy Hit Households Hard

Many people in Germany are no longer able to pay their electricity bills. Skyrocketing electricity prices are making electricity unaffordable for a large number of Germans. The past year over 600,000 households had their power switched off in Germany because they can’t afford the skyrocketing electric bills.(1)

LETTERS: Ranks of global climate change doubters growing

Corvallis Gazette-Times LETTERS, February 13, 2008
Jean Nelson, Corvallis

Headlines say Emperor penguins MAY be endangered. Global warming MAY destroy our forests. And nonscientist Al Gore made another appearance before Congress, saying that an ice storm doesn’t mean the end of global warming. After 650 dissenting scientists around the world recently challenged man-made global warming, proponents are turning up the heat.

Proponents realize that “Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason.” (Samuel Adams, 1722-1803, American politician and patriot of the American Revolution.) Debate and criticism of global warming should not be an emotional issue.

Russian scientists have “rejected the very idea that carbon dioxide may be responsible for global warming.”

Andrei Kapitsa says, “It is global warming that triggers higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, not the other way round Kyoto theorists put the cart before the horse. A large number of critical documents submitted at the 1995 U.N. conference in Madrid vanished without a trace. As a result, the U.N declared global warming to be a scientific fact.”

Well-known Hungarian physicist and environmental researcher Miklos Zagoni, once an outspoken supporter of the Kyoto protocol who changed from supporter to critic of global warming, explains how nature regulates the amount of carbon dioxide, keeping it in balance.

Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, prominent Japanese scientist and educator, said, “CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another. Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so. Global warming as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.”
