Queen Risks Life To Mark 70th Anniversary of WWII, Whereas Obama Releases Spotify Playlist

Today HM The Queen attended a memorial service in central London to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over Japan in World War II. She was guest of honor despite the media having uncovered a plot to blow up the event and kill her.


Her attendance at St Martin-In-The-Field church was in sharp contrast to President Barack Obama who did not appear to be commemorating American efforts to defeat the Japanese. Instead he chose to release a list of his favorite songs on the music website Spotify. A move that is likely be seen as disrespectful by veterans.

While it is good and proper to respectfully note the assassination of any political leader in America, the establishment left in America has tried since November 1963 to bleat, blame, and badger their countrymen into accepting the false notion that Kennedy was a great president or, indeed, a good man. The assassination of his brother five years later magnified this theme.  What is the truth about JFK? How ought we to view this president in the light of what we know now?  Every new revelation about JFK since his death makes him look worse. Consider his military career. PT boats were small, fast, and nimble. Any competent skipper would have used these advantages, but Kennedy managed the remarkable feat of being the only PT skipper in the Second World War to have his boat rammed. If his name had not been "Kennedy," he might have face court martial instead of glory.

An Open Letter to President Obama on the Occasion of 9/11

Dear President Obama,
I read of your administrations plan to re-define September 11th as a National Service Day. Sir, it's time we had a talk.

During your campaign, Americans watched as you made mockery of our tradition of standing and crossing your heart when the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. You, out of four people on the stage, were the only one not honoring our tradition. We noticed.

During one of your many speeches, Americans heard you say that you intended to visit all 57 states. We noticed.

When Senator McCain leaned over at Ground Zero and gently placed a flower on the memorial, you tossed your flower onto the pile without leaning over. We noticed.

Every time you apologized to other countries for America's position on an issue, we have wondered why you don't share our pride in this great country. When you have heard foreign leaders berate our country and our beliefs, you have not defended us. We noticed.

When your pastor of 20 years damned America and said that 9/11 was "America's chickens coming home to roost" and you denied having heard recriminations of that nature, we wondered how that could be. When you later disassociated yourself from that church and pastor because it was politically expedient to do so, we noticed.

When you announced that you would transform America, we wondered why. With all her faults, America is the greatest country on earth. Sir, if not for America and the people who built her, you wouldn't be sitting in the White House now. Prior to your election to the highest office in this country, you were a senator from Illinois and from what we can glean from the records available, not a remarkable one. We noticed.

All through your campaign and even now, you have surrounded yourself with individuals who are basically unqualified for the positions to which you appointed them. Worse than that, the majority of them are people who, like you, bear no special affection or respect for this country and her traditions. We noticed.

You are seven months into your term and every morning millions of Americans wake up to a new horror heaped on us by you. You seek to saddle working Americans with a health care/insurance reform package that, along with cap and trade, will bankrupt this nation. We noticed.

We seek, by protesting, to let our representatives know that we are not in favor of these crippling expenditures and we are labeled "un-American," and "racist." We wonder how we are supposed to let you know how frustrated we are. You have attempted to make our protests seem isolated. We noticed.

On September 11, 2001 there were no Republicans or Democrats, only Americans. And we all grieved together and helped each other in whatever way we could. The attack on 9/11 was carried out because we are Americans. And we noticed.

There were many of us who prayed that as a black president you could help unite this nation even more. In seven months you have done more to destroy this nation than anyone since 9/11. You have failed us. We noticed.

September 11th is a day of remembrance for all Americans. You propose to make 9/11 a "National Service Day." While we know that you may not share our reverence for 9/11, we pray that history will report your proposal as what it is...a disgrace.

When Americans come together again, it will be to remove you from office. You have made a mockery of our Constitution and the office that you hold. You have embarrassed and slighted us in foreign visits and policy.

We have noticed all these things. We will deal with you.

Medal of Honor awarded one year ago

On 29 September 2006, 25-year old Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor (MA2) was killed during operations in enemy-held territory at Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when he threw himself on top of a grenade in order to save the lives of his fellow SEALs. As described in the final two paragraphs of a Summary of Action (SOA) regarding the circumstances of his death:

While vigilantly watching for enemy activity, an enemy fighter hurled a hand grenade onto the roof from an unseen location. The grenade hit him in the chest and bounced onto the deck. He immediately leapt to his feet and yelled “grenade” to alert is teammates of impending danger, but they could not evacuate the sniper hide-sight in time to escape harm. Without hesitation and showing no regard for his own life, he threw himself onto the grenade, smothering it to protect his teammates who were lying in close proximity. The grenade detonated as he came down on top of it, mortally wounding him.

Petty Officer Monsoor’s action could not have been more selfless or clearly intentional. Of the three SEALSs on that rooftop corner, he had the only avenue of escape away from the blast, and if he had so chosen, he could have easily escaped. Instead, Monsoor chose to protect his comrades by the sacrifice of his own life. By his courageous and selfless action, he save the lives of his two fellow SEALs and he is the most deserving of the special recognition afforded by awarding the Medal of Honor.

On 8 April 2008, Michael Monsoor (who had already been posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions in a 9 May 2006 incident, when he and another SEAL pulled a wounded team member to safety amidst gunfire) was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. His funeral, attended (in the words of President Bush) by “nearly every SEAL on the West Coast,” was held on 12 October 2006 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. As shown at the end of the tribute video (above), during Monsoor’s funeral service, as the casket was taken from the hearse to the gravesite, fellow SEALs lined up in two columns to slap and embed the gold Tridents (a pin awarded for successful completion of Seal Qualification Training) from their uniforms onto the top of Monsoor’s coffin. As President George W. Bush said of the event during the Medal of Honor ceremony, “The procession went on nearly half an hour, and when it was over, the simple wooden coffin had become a gold-plated memorial to a hero who will never be forgotten.”

10 Years After: Remembering Columbine

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, seniors at Columbine, the suburban Denver school, detonated homemade bombs and opened fire with shotguns, a rifle and a semiautomatic handgun on April 20, 1999. They killed 12 students, injured 23 others and mortally wounded a teacher before committing suicide.

Celebrating the 155th anniversary of the Republican Party

[POSTED HERE A DAY LATE] GRAND OLD PARTISAN BLOG, 3/20/2009 - Our party's heritage IS the moral high ground, and forgetting it costs us the political initiative. We would benefit tremendously from appreciating the heritage of the Republican Party. Today [March 20], Republicans celebrate - or should celebrate - the 155th anniversary of our Grand Old Party.

Several sites share the credit as its birthplace, but our party was named in Ripon, Wisconsin. On March 20, 1854, fifty-eight civil rights activists called for all opponents of slavery to unite in a new organization, to be called "the Republican Party." This name had a past as well as a future, since Thomas Jefferson and many other Founders had called themselves "Republicans."

On July 6, the first state convention was held, in Jackson, Michigan. Thanks to the zeal and dedication of early Republican leaders, the GOP soon became a major national party. Now, more than ever, the Republican Party should get back to basics.

2009: 200th Anniversary of Lincoln's Birth

In recent years, the Republican leadership missed two chances to hit a home run. If, in early 2004, the Grand Old Party had celebrated its 150th anniversary, Republicans would have entered the Bush-Kerry campaign with greater enthusiasm and sense of purpose. If, in early 2006, the Republican National Committee had celebrated its 150th anniversary, Republicans would have entered the mid-term election campaign more unified and focused.

History now grants the GOP a third chance. Next year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Just think of the magnificent opportunities for outreach, for party-building, for fundraising!

Most history books take Abraham Lincoln out of his proper context as a Republican, depicting him instead as "above politics" or as a quasi-Democrat. Democrats can steal our Republican heritage only if we let them. The way for our Party to retake the policy initiative is to embrace our true heritage, undistorted by all those books written by Democrat historians.

As Republicans struggle to repair our damaged brand, we should draw inspiration from our party's first President. We should remind the nation - and ourselves - that ours is the Party of Lincoln.

The bicentennial of Lincoln's birth is less than two month away: February 12, 2009. I call on Republicans around the nation to begin right now to plan commemorative events. Let's be sure to remember the 16th President not only as the Great Emancipator, but also the Great Republican.
