Letter: State's solutions to economic problems don't really add up

CORVALLIS GAZETTE-TIMES, LETTERS, 9/3/2009 by Charles Nelson - I am sure that someone will come forward and explain this for me, but I do not understand the financial logic of Gov. Kulongoski and the Democratic members of our state legislature. ∴ 1. Tax hospitals and health insurers to pay for health care. So ... take money from a health care provider, siphon off government administration expenses, and use the remainder for health care? ∴ 2. The state has a serious unemployment problem. The solution ... take money from the corporations and people with money that provide jobs by increasing their taxes. Then give the money to government entities.

If this makes sense to you, please explain it to me.

Republican legislators offered plans that would have increased employment without using any taxes. The Democrats voted in these plans instead. No Republican legislator voted for them.

Who did you vote for?

There are petitions being circulated to refer these issues to the voters. More discussion would be healthy and letting voters decide if taxes should be raised in a recession is not a bad idea. One Web site to see copies of the bills and sign petitions is myafpor.org.
