4/2/2009, (H/t: Lyn Riverstone) - A Memorial (a memo to Congress and the White House), sponsored by Rep. Richardson and 21 Republican co-sponsors, was introduced to assert Oregon's sovereignty once again. It has been assigned "HJM17" (House Joint Memorial 17, a House and Senate Memo) to the House Rules Committee where it's fate will be decided. The Memorial "Urges Congress to refrain from imposing mandates on states and to allow State of Oregon to freely exercise sovereignty granted to it under Tenth Amendment of Constitution of United States."

A supporter from Eastern Oregon writes,We must pressure the Committee to move it to a hearing where testimonials can be taken, the wording worked [out], and then introduced to the floor for a vote. Our main focus is the Chair (Rep. Roblan), Vice-Chair (Rep. Berger) and any Committee member who is a co-sponsor (Garrard). Call, email, send letters and visit them.

[Reordered]
"The powers not delegated to the United States, nor prohibited by the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or the people." -- The 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
Only specific functions enumerated in the U.S. Constitution are granted to the Federal Government by the States - if it's not listed, the Federal Government can't do it. Oregon has strayed far from this ideal, taking orders such as the Real-ID Act and begging for bailout money instead of acting as the sovereigns we are.
