“WE WANT LESS!” say Oregonians at Rally
Oregonians will gather Monday on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 15 with a unified message, “WE WANT LESS!” ∴ Oregon families and businesses will gather to ask the Legislature and the governor to avoid the temptation to raise additional taxes, including the taking of the “Kicker.” Instead, the Legislature should focus on reducing the tax and regulatory burden on hard-working Oregon families and businesses. This exciting event will include a march around the Capitol . BRING A HOMEMADE SIGN URGING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, LOW TAXES AND JOB CREATION!! ∴ Prior to the rally, Americans for Prosperity will hold a “Thank You” event on the West Capitol steps at 10:00 a.m. Also, important statewide and local initiatives for 2010 and 2012 will be introduced. AFP chapters are FIGHTING TAX AND FEE INCREASES. ∴ After the rally, you are invited to visit your Legislators.
Although all seats are already sold at the Lane County Republican Lincoln Day Celebration on April 23, a rally is being organized outside the Eugene Hilton in support of Sara Palin’s appearance there. Please make your sign and plan to go to Eugene that day to let the town know that Sarah has many supporters in this area. The time will be announced later. Watch for more announcements.
“Oregon Train Wreck” being worsened by Democrat decisions
Projected state revenue income from tax collection and lottery fund profits is projected to be DOWN by more than $190 million since the December 2009 forecast. It has dropped more than $400 million since July 1, 2009. Also, the 2009 fourth quarter report was the seventh consecutive month of job losses and declining revenue.
IT’S TIME TO REEVALUATE THE POLICIES THAT HAVE CREATED THIS ONGOING TRAIN WRECK. Oregonians need to reconsider the wisdom of raising taxes, enlarging fees, and expanding regulation on the business community. We must preach loud and long that it is the business community that sustains our private sector jobs and state economy!!! But unfortunately, in the early days of the 2010 “Emergency Special Session” it does not appear that the majority of the Dems are reconsidering their policy choices.
“Emergency Special Session” is an excuse to attack private property rights
Rules of the “emergency special session” allow each senator to request two bills to be drafted and each Representative can request that one bill be drafted. And true to form, the D’s are stacking the deck by creating exceptions to the time limits and time frames, which will allow themselves to introduce any bill at just about any time.
Rep. Doug Whitsett (R-Klamath Falls, District 28) says that the only thing special about the emergency special session is that it appears to be designed to virtually exclude public participation in the law making process !! When a public hearing and work session on the bill is going to be held, the public gets only one days’ notice!! This just about eliminates the opportunity for most people in Eastern, Southern or Coastal Oregon to participate in the law making process. By the time the people find out what is being done to them, the opportunity to testify at a hearing or work session has already passed. ONE HOUR COMMITTEE NOTICE can be forced on the Legislature at any time. IT MUST BE THE NATIONAL DEMOCRAT POLICY TO LEGISLATE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Washington D.C. has nothing on Oregon!!
BILLS THAT CONCERN THOSE WHO LIVE AND WORK IN RURAL OREGON:
SB 1060 (introduced by Sen. Alan Bates of Ashland) proposes to CHANGE the term “Navagable stream” to “floatable stream”. It then defines a floatable waterway as any stream, lake, or reservoir that is capable of floating any device at any time of the year, in spite of shallow riffles and cobbles. The bill prevents any obstruction across the stream that would potentially interfere with floating devices, like a fence or a diversion dam, even if it is located on PRIVATE LAND. This bill forces owners of private land to let the public cross their land to get to these streams. Three proposed amendments to this bill make it even worse. THIS IS A HUGE ATTACK ON PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS!!!
HB 3661 proposes to exert draconian restrictions on the construction and use of domestic wells that provide water for families and livestock. Landowners currently have the right to construct domestic wells on their property without a water right permit. This has always been an inherent property right in Oregon. The landowner is entitled to beneficially use up to 15,000 gallons per day from the well for family household use. In addition, the landowner is allowed to water his livestock and to irrigate up to one half acre of lawn and garden from the well. Those who have group domestic wells and who have wells for industrial uses have similar property rights. HB 3661 PROPOSES TO REDUCE THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF ALLOWABLE USE FROM ANY NEWLY CONSTRUCTED DOMESTIC WELL TO 5,000 gallons per day INCLUDING WATER NEEDED FOR GARDEN, LAWN AND LIVESTOCK WATERING. Group domestic wells would allow only one ½ acre parcel to be irrigated from each group domestic well! Industrial use would also be limited to 5,000 gallons a day, including water for landscape maintenance.
BOTH THESE BILLS HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL “TAKINGS” ISSUES. In addition, these bills are not needed!! They will certainly reduce the opportunities for building new homes and businesses dependent on groundwater, thereby costing jobs, hurting the economy and reducing state revenue. And most certainly, THEY WILL NOT BE GOOD FOR RURAL OREGON.
STAND UP FOR RURAL OREGON! Stop government from destroying those who produce our agriculture!!

AFP Members: What are you going to do about this?
11/20/2009 (Via email/Hat tip: Linda Weimer, Benton County AFP Chair) - If you saw the editorial page of the Oregonian today, you saw a piece on Al Gore's visit to Oregon. In the piece, the Oregonian directly attacks AFP as a so-called "Astroturf" organization, one that does not have any real grassroots members and is controlled by big energy big-money in Washington, D.C. ∴ The editorial repeated Al Gore's claim that, "They sent a professional, so-called 'astroturf' organizer from Washington, D.C., to come out here to Portland," Gore said Wednesday. "This group is financed by the single largest private energy interest in the United States, Koch Industries." The editorial continued, "As The Oregonian's Matthew Preusch reported, the group behind the anti-Gore rallying is Americans for Prosperity, which claims to have 700,000 members in 50 states." According to the Oregonian and Al Gore, neither you or the members who attend your meetings exist. The Oregonian also doesn't seem to know that all of the money AFP-Oregon spends in Oregon is raised from Oregon - they seem to believe a bunch of oil companies from D.C. fund our operations. Apparently, they also believe it is a crime that David Koch, one of AFP's founders, has interests in the energy industry. These people are out to marginalize not just AFP, but you and your chapter members.
If any of this offends you, you can do something about it. Write a Letter to the Editor telling the Oregonian who you are as an AFP member - that you are not "Astroturf." Let them know that the AFP office in Washington, D.C. doesn't pull your strings and doesn't give you money.
Writing such a Letter to the Editor is very easy...The Oregonian provides guidelines for writing Letters to the Editor, along with the email link to actually submit one, at this web page:

Estacada Voters Pass Tax, Fee Vote Requirement
11/4/2009, Estacada, OR - The work of AFP-Oregon volunteers and staff led to another taxpayer victory in the Clackamas County community of Estacada last night. Measure 3-346, which will require a vote on all proposed tax and fee increases over 3 percent per year, or any new tax or fee, was approved by a comfortable 56-44 margin. ∴ AFP-Oregon volunteers - led by Dora Morgan - collected signatures to place the measure on the ballot. Local volunteer Steve Locke spearheaded the on-the-ground campaign effort. ∴ "The voters of Estacada have spoken," said AFP-Oregon State Director Jeff Kropf, "and have declared they want to reclaim control of their wallets. In these difficult economic times, governments across Oregon should be searching for ways to reduce the burden they impose on citizens. The City will now have to work collaboratively with voters to determine what programs are worth funding, and what sources of revenue make sense. It's a new era of fiscal responsibility and discipline in Estacada. I can't thank our AFP-Oregon volunteers enough for the tremendous effort they made."
AFP-Oregon has assisted in passing similar measures in Damascus and Cascade Locks, and several Oregon communities are considering the measure in light of local efforts to raise taxes, fees and charges beyond what taxpayers can afford.
AFP-Oregon has 17,000 members in Oregon organized into 30 local Chapters with local leadership which hold regular meetings. AFP-Oregon provides training and motivation to volunteers to go out and work for limited government and economic freedom.

Benton County AFP Chair: A message from Linda
Hello All,
Remember to always have your petitions available wherever you are, at whatever function you attend. We still need many signatures. Please walk your neighborhoods, and precincts gathering as many as you can. As always urging the signers to do so carefully, so their signatures will not be thrown out. Remember to get your petitions to me, no later than Monday, by noon, as I need to turn them in by Monday afternoon. Remember any questions you might have, call me at 740-1736, or 754-0203.
Upcoming schedule of important events:
Tuesday morning, August 18th, we will be meeting no later than 7:30 at the Republican Headquarters (1760 SW 3rd, by Curves) parking lot, and leaving no later than 7:45, preferably before that. We will go to the Defazio Town Hall meeting in Junction City from 9:00-10:00. My guess is they will possibly be sending in liberals from Corvallis, and Eugene to keep us from getting a seat and asking questions. We need everyone to come out. Make sure your cell phones are charged and ready to take pictures, or if you have a small camcorder, that would be great as well. We can bring our petitions and hopefully will be able to get some signatures.
Tuesday evening, August 18th AFP will have our first local Town Hall meeting. It will be held at the Salbasgeon Suites, 1730 NW 9th St, in the McKenzie Room. It will begin at 6:30. We will be privileged to have with us, Jeff Kropf, State Director of Americans For Prosperity. Please encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and strangers to all come out for that. We must SUPPORT our local efforts. Let's get our first Town Hall off to a great start, and make this a standing room only event.
Thursday August 20th, Americans For Prosperity, have been invited to attend the Republican barbecue at the Philomath Frolic Rodeo grounds, in Philomath. It will feature Sandy's fabulous barbecued tri-tip steak, and chicken. Adults $15.00, children, under 12, $7.50, and Children under 3 are free. Everyone is invited. There will be special activities for the children, and a great time will be had by all.
August 25th will be our 4th Tuesday of the month AFP meeting, beginning at 6:15, at King Tin Restaurant. 1857 NW 9th Street.
Sept. 17th, is Constitution Day. We will be having a Constitution Day Tea Party in front of the Courthouse, from 4:00-6:00 pm. Be making your signs, bring your flags, and start telling your family, friends, neighbors and strangers about this important event. We will have a few extra signs and flags. Let's make this an even bigger one than our Tax Day Tea Party.
You HAVE made a difference. I realize there are lots of activities and events scheduled. I am asking you to mark these dates on your calendar, to make an extra effort to be there. We cannot take a day off. These people, who are purposefully and methodically dismantling the America that we know and love, are not going away. They will persevere, until they accomplish what they have set out to do, unless WE stop them. They have a bigger foothold than any of us ever imagined, and we must be ever vigilant and involved, to fight fiercely, for our freedom.

Does Obamacare make Americans "Feel Guilty for Wanting to Live?"
It happened last week in the small town of Gate City, Virginia. Your Americans for Prosperity team was wrapping up a Patients First bus tour event opposing the Obama/Pelosi health care takeover. Out of the corner of my eye I saw an elderly lady struggle to her feet. She gestured toward me and I walked over to her. She was stooped from osteoporosis. She looked up into my eyes and said, "It makes me feel guilty for wanting to live."
You see, we had just detailed the "end of life" mandatory counseling provision of the Obama/Pelosi health care takeover for the crowd. Dr. Larry Hunter had just explained that on page 425 and 426 the House bill states that if you are a Medicare recipient you will receive counseling to learn about "end of life" options, including hospice and palliative care.
This has seniors worried. End-of-life decisions are intensely personal, and most Americans agree that they should be discussed with your family and your doctor. But do we need a government mandate for that?
If the government moves to control our health care dollars - by taxing us more to pay for government-run care - then the government will have its say in how those dollars are spent and which patients get the benefits. That sweet elderly lady in Gate City, Virginia is someone's mother, someone's grandmother, someone's wife.
And, you and I should pledge today that on our watch she - and every other senior - will make end-of-life decisions with their family members and personal doctors, free of government intrusion.
You've been active with Americans for Prosperity for some time now. You know we seldom ask for financial help. We know the key is grassroots action - working with you to put pressure on these Washington, D.C. politicians through calls, e-mails, rallies, and petitions like our Patients First effort. But, there are times when we need funds to pay for these rallies and bus tours. Last week, our Patients First bus tour made 27 stops in Virginia in 1 week. You see, we had just detailed the "end of life" mandatory counseling provision of the Obama/Pelosi health care takeover for the crowd. Dr. Larry Hunter had just explained that on page 425 and 426 the House bill states that if you are a Medicare recipient you will receive counseling to learn about "end of life" options, including hospice and palliative care.
This has seniors worried. End-of-life decisions are intensely personal, and most Americans agree that they should be discussed with your family and your doctor. But do we need a government mandate for that?
If the government moves to control our health care dollars - by taxing us more to pay for government-run care - then the government will have its say in how those dollars are spent and which patients get the benefits. Note: Jeff Kropf, State Director of the Oregon Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, radio talk-show host and former state representative, addressed the Benton County Republican Central Committee tonight and spoke on the value of common sense, principles and character.
