House Votes to Hike Debt Limit
FOXNews.com, 1/4/2010 by Chad Pergram - Debt, Debt & More Debt: "The House of Representatives Thursday voted to raise the debt limit by $1.9 trillion. That vote raises the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion, a new high for the amount of debt the U.S. has ever carried." Read more at Fox News...
- The Senate approved the debt limit increase in mid-January on a 60-40 party-line vote.
- The House vote was a close one, 217-212. All Republicans and more than 30 Democrats voted against raising the debt ceiling.

Geithner Asks Congress to Increase Federal Debt Limit
WSJ: WASHINGTON - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner asked Congress to increase the $12.1 trillion debt limit on Friday, saying it is "critically important" that they act in the next two months. ∴ Mr. Geithner, in a letter to U.S. lawmakers, said that the Treasury projects that the current debt limit could be reached as early mid-October. Increasing the limit is important to instilling confidence in global investors, Mr. Geithner said. Read more at Wall Street Journal...
