Conger: $200M wasted, time to shut Cover Oregon down

PORTLAND, ORE – Rep. Jason Conger (R-Bend) renewed his call to shut down Cover Oregon in light of new information showing that $200 million has been spent out of roughly $300 million in federal grant money the state received to build its health insurance exchange.

“Cover Oregon is a train wreck, and the more we learn the worse it gets,” Conger said. “We now know that $200 million has been spent – and the website still doesn’t work.“

OR Obamacare Online Enrollment System Still Doesn’t Work 3 Months After It Was Supposed To Launch

Gov. John Kitzhaber said Thursday the state has hired a firm to conduct an independent review of what went wrong with Oregon’s troubled health insurance exchange.  Several states and the federal government have struggled with exchange technology, but none as much as Oregon. Cover Oregon’s online enrollment system still doesn’t work more than three months after it was supposed to launch, and the state has hired or reassigned hundreds of workers to manually process applications. Officials say they hope the online system will be operational by March.

Website still not working, Oregon Obamacare Exchange director takes ‘medical leave’

Whenever you hear someone complaining that Obamacare isn’t working because of Republican sabotage, just point them Oregon’s way. Oregon created its own ACA exchange and its Democratic officials had high hopes for the law.

The problem-plagued rollout of HealthCare.gov prompted the Obama administration on Friday to announce a delay for when Americans must sign up in order to have insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1.  But Oregon—a state where the website failed so miserably there are nearly 25,000 backlogged paper applications and zero enrollments—remains silent.

Unfortunately, CoverOregon IS the poster child for ObamaCare!

The October 1st debut of the Affordable Care Act has been nothing less than a disaster. In most states the system remains nonfunctional nearly a month after its introduction. As many as 100 million people who are seeking medical insurance have been turned away because the system simply does not work.

Millions are looking to the Affordable Care Act Exchanges as a market place to find health insurance to replace existing policies that have been cancelled by their insurance carriers pursuant to implementation of the Act. Millions more are looking to the Exchanges to replace policies that have been made obsolete or illegal under the complex provisions of ObamaCare.

Not only are the Exchange websites non-functional, but the federal employees hired to help navigate the complex system are ill prepared to answer important questions. Worse, many of these Exchange employees across the nation appear to have a “What me worry?” attitude. It appears that neither the President nor anyone in the Obama administration knows how to fix the system or even seem to be concerned that it’s broken.
