Karla Davenport for iSpy Radio
Upcoming Show: Saturday, June 20, 11AM-Noon on KUIK 1360
Our Guests: Nancy Trahern, Pres of Rogue Valley Rep. Women & Grace-Marie Turner, Founder of the Galen Institute
This week: Any day now, the Supreme Court will decide on what to do about the Obamacare subsidies. Obamacare proponents have said that if the subsidies are taken away, this could be the death knell for Obamacare. Obamacare proponents also like to say we need to keep Obamacare because the Republicans haven't come up with any plans to replace it. But this is a straw man argument because it assumes that an all-encompassing "comprehensive" plan is somehow better than a series of plans to deal with specific problems. It implies the healthcare system must be run by the federal government without stopping to ask whether it should be meddling in your health care in the first place.
On this week’s show, we’ll talk with Grace-Marie Turner of the Galen Institute. We'll take a hard look at Obamacare itself, free-market solutions, the Republican plans, and what the Court's potential rulings could mean for the subsidies for people in states that don’t have state-run healthcare exchanges. And remember, thanks to the fiasco of Cover Oregon, we don’t have a state-run exchange, so this ruling will have an impact here—and the more than 30 other states that don't have one either. Tune in to hear what we ought to be doing when it comes to health care but how Obamacare takes us in the exact wrong direction.
Speaking of Oregon, our first guest is Nancy Trahern, President of the Rogue Valley Republican Women. We talk with her about a very troubling component of Oregon's version of Obamacare: School Based Health Centers. SBHCs purposefully remove parents from their decision making roles for their children's health. Sadly, this is a national movement but one more example of government taking control.
