OneNewsNow, 8/23/2011 by Russ Jones - A liberal lawmaker from Oregon is speaking out against President Barack Obama and saying he may lose his 2012 re-election bid. ✧ During a break between town hall meetings in Eugene, Oregon, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon) recently told KGW-TV that President Obama is "not [doing] so good." ✧ "I think it started really with his stimulus package, which I voted against," DeFazio speculates. "And I remember the original stimulus that came out of the House would've built a lot more stuff, would've put a lot more people to work." ✧ He points out that the GOP nomination could make or break Obama's bid for a second term.
Barack Obama big"At this point, it pretty much depends upon how far out there the Republican nominee is," the Oregon representative notes. "With a respectable sort of someone who would tend a little more toward the middle of the road ... he's gonna have a very tough time getting re-elected."
And in The Beaver State, where KGW reports that Obama won by some 600,000 votes in 2008, no such landslide is guaranteed next year.
"I believe Oregon is very much in play. I mean, we are one of the harder-hit states in the union, particularly my part of the state," the Democratic lawmaker explains. "I've just done six town hall meetings, got seven to go, and people are shaking their heads and saying, 'I don't know if I can vote for him again.'"
And ultimately, he concludes that Obama has not fought to make good on his promises.
"Fight? I don't think it's a word in his vocabulary," DeFazio suggests. "He concedes everything to the Republicans, so he doesn't seem to have an ounce of fight in him."
