(Posted late) YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY! - A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE FROM BOB TIERNAN, Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party: On Friday, Republicans stood together and stood strong to hand the Democrats in Salem one of the biggest defeats of the session. Republicans thwarted the Democrats’ plan to push through legislation that would suspend Measure 57 and ignore the will of the voters! Last November, Oregon voters passed Measure 57 by a 61% margin. Now the Democrats are trying to overturn the will of Oregon voters. ∴ The Democrats in Salem have said they will bring this vote up again for reconsideration on Monday, once again trying to overturn the will of the people! Call the Democrats and tell them to respect the votes of the people of Oregon and VOTE NO on the reconsideration vote of HB 3508 on Monday!
Measure 57 appeared on the November 2008 ballot and was passed by a large majority of the voters. It requires longer prison sentences and mandatory drug and alcohol treatment for felony criminals who commit the crimes of manufacturing and dealing large quantities of illegal drugs such as meth, heroin and cocaine; identity theft, thefts against the elderly and repeat felony property crimes such as home invasion, burglary and stealing your car.
Now the Democratic controlled Legislature wants to suspend that measure for three years because they say they can't afford it!
Call or email your Republican legislator and thank them for their efforts to stop the Democrats’ liberal agenda or contact your Democratic legislator and tell them to listen to will of Oregon voters. You can find your Representative and Senator by visiting: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/
Please don't assume other people receiving this call to action will do this and therefore you don't need to. I am asking all of you who receive this message to take action. We need all legislators to receive thousands of emails and calls so that they know we are serious about having our vote respected and our streets kept safe.
Stand up for your vote and for your families and their safety. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bob Tiernan
Chairman, Oregon Republican Party
Don’t Let Senate Bill 767 Kill Online School!
Contact Sarah Gelser (District 16) and tell her to vote against this bill that reduces student options.
A bill that could kill the online Oregon Connections Academy, a virtual online school, when it tries to renew its charter next year passed the Oregon Senate and is scheduled for debate Monday in the Oregon House of Representatives. Oregon’s Democrat-controlled legislature has the voting majority and is tied to the Oregon Education Association (the teachers’ union), which opposes any competition to traditional schools.
The Willamette Weekly recently revealed the Oregon Education Association (the teachers’ union) used its influence to get a state-employed attorney to draft politically charged, pro-OEA language for legislation intended to strangle OEA competition. The OEA lobbyist asked the Dept. of Education attorney to draft provisions in direct contradiction of Oregon’s State Board of Education. And the attorney did it.
To see how subversive the OEA and its union representatives’ actions have become in legislative politics, read the Willamette Weekly’s article, the letter from State Board of Education’s Chairman, Duncan Wyse, and the recently discovered e-mail from OEA union lobbyist Laurie Wimmer to Oregon Department of Education attorney, Cindy L. Hunt.
The OEA lobbyist’s requests were granted and the desired provisions were then buried in Senate Bill 767. Deep in SB 767 is found the following provision:
SECTION 13c. ORS 338.125 (2)(b) applies to all public charter schools operating in this state prior to, on or after the effective date of this 2009 Act unless: (1) A public charter school has been granted a waiver of the provisions of ORS 338.125 (2)(b) by the State Board of Education under ORS 338.025;
Although most people reading Section 13c of SB 767 would not give it a thought, a close reading shows it is intended to shut down any competition to OEA’s hold on public education. The statute referred to, ORS 338.125 (2)(b), states in relevant part the following:
“…if a public charter school offers any online courses as part of the curriculum of the school, then 50 percent or more of the students who attend the public charter school must reside in the school district in which the public charter school is located.”
Of deep concern are the facts this position opposes the official position of the State Board of Education, but that its chairman Dennis Wyse says “that’s o.k.”, showing that the State Board isn’t going to lock horns with the teachers’ union.

“The Letter” Expresses Deep Concerns of Patriots
Patriotic talk-show host Glenn Beck recently received a letter from a woman in Arizona that contained a message to our nation’s leadership. The letter says that the woman is an American citizen, born and raised in this country. She’s 53, a registered Democrat all her life, until before the last presidential election, when she registered as a Republican because she no longer felt the Democratic Party represents her view or works to pursue issues important to her.
She continues, “Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you’re willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now.
“You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation”:
One, illegal immigration and secure borders; Two, freeze and repeal the TARP bill; Three, stop circumvention of our checks and balances by the Czars. Fire them! ; Four, cap and trade; Five, don’t rush into the expensive decision on universal health care; Six, growing government control… restore states’ rights; Seven, she doesn’t trust Acorn and wants them investigated and controlled; Eight, the only redistribution of wealth I will support is when someone with more money gives me a job; Nine, don’t mess with charitable contributions; Ten, stop the corporate bailouts; Eleven, let’s have some real transparency and accountability; Twelve, stop the unprecedented quick spending. To read how she feels about these issues and what she expects from our legislators, go to our website, which will direct you to the full article.
You will also find a Petition: an open letter to our nation’s leadership, which you may want to sign.
