Republican Meg Whitman, former chief executive of eBay, will run for the governorship of California in 2010. Whitman hopes to replace Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican incumbent, who is blocked from running for a third straight term by term limits. Schwarzenegger's popularity has dropped dramatically due to California’s escalating financial crisis.
