The White House, September 24, 2008 - President Bush on Wednesday said, "Our economy is facing a moment of great challenge. But we've overcome tough challenges before -- and we will overcome this one. I know that Americans sometimes get discouraged by the tone in Washington, and the seemingly endless partisan struggles. Yet history has shown that in times of real trial, elected officials rise to the occasion. And together, we will show the world once again what kind of country America is -- a nation that tackles problems head on, where leaders come together to meet great tests, and where people of every background can work hard, develop their talents, and realize their dreams." I am opposed to the $700B bailout. As a republican and a small business owner, I have looked at the key points of the Bipartisan Plan and I see no provision for the money to be returned and for the government to get out of private enterprise.
I do not see any good coming from the US government saving greedy predatory bankers who will drive the people deeper into debt. The people need stable jobs that pay a living wage; they need decent education and health care. Only investments in agriculture, manufacturing, education and health care are worth while at this time.
The people can not afford to pay thousands to the banks that are driving them to desperation at the expense of their children’s food and schools. I have a mortgage and children and just need a stable job to provide a safe home, food, education and health insurance for my family. I fear the enemies within more than the enemies abroad. No foreign power can hurt us more than we can hurt ourselves right now.
History will judge us on the wisdom we apply today. History will be harsh on those with short sight and ulterior motives. This country’s founding fathers and mothers would be ashamed of the condition we have placed ourselves into.
We have a test of the presidential candidates with this current financial crisis. Both are US senators and both will have a major say in the actions of the next few weeks. The one who chooses and votes wisely will likely be our next president. The loyalty of the nation may shift to the candidate with the most interest in the people of this nation. McCain or Obama, who will support the people with his vote? Who will the people support?
