McCain on the financial crisis

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

On September 24th, John McCain announced that he would suspended his campaign to work on a solution to the proposed bailout and invited Barack Obama to do the same. According to Ace at Exurban League (tongue-in-cheek),

Obama: I Am Such a Leader That I Will Defer to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi As to Whether I Actually Need to Show Up To Do My Job As Senator.

If Harry Reid tells him he needs to come into work during the most serious financial crisis since 1929, he'll do so. Otherwise, he's doin' what he does best. Campaignin' for president. Talking about stuff.
UPDATE: Both McCain and Obama will meet with President Bush on Thursday.
